President Trump recently signed a new law expanding family and medical leave for certain employers with fewer than 500 employees. In addition to providing additional paid family leave to employees, the law provides that employers MUST provide notice of these changes to their employees by April 1st. Housing Deemed Essential Infrastructure Business
This weekend the US Department of Homeland Security designated construction of single-family and multi-family residences an “Essential Infrastructure Business.” This designation serves as important guidance for states that make determinations for which businesses are essential though it does not serve as a federal order. Mortgage Companies to Provide Relief to NJ Homeowners
Governor Murphy announced this weekend that his administration had worked with mortgage companies to provide relief for NJ homeowners and that numerous companies have pledged to provide a 90 day grace period for homeowners affected by COVID-19. Additionally, lenders have agreed not to initiate any foreclosures or evictions for 60 days. Impacted homeowners should contact their lender to see if they qualify. Personal Protective Equipment Donations
Healthcare workers and first responders continue to suffer from a lack of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). NJ has set up a website to handle donations and for businesses to report if they have stock of PPE per the requirements of Executive Order #109. NJ Economic Development Authority Financial Assistance Information
The NJ Economic Development Authority (EDA) has launched a new Emergency Assistance Eligibility Wizard to help businesses determine what resources may be available at assistance.business.nj.gov. Additionally, EDA CEO Tim Sullivan will be speaking with the New Jersey Business & Industry Association, the New Jersey State Chamber of Commerce and the Commerce & Industry Association of New Jersey for a special webinar on March 31st at 4pm to discuss the host of new EDA assistance programs.
